West Wits Mining is offering an exciting 12-month Graduate Internship Programme across multiple engineering and technical disciplines. This comprehensive programme is designed to provide graduates with real-world exposure to mining operations while working alongside experienced professionals in a leading mining environment.
About the Programme
Our internship programme offers a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between academic theory and practical application. You’ll be immersed in day-to-day mining operations, gaining invaluable experience that will set the foundation for a successful career in the mining industry. Under the mentorship of qualified engineers and technical specialists, you’ll contribute to real projects while developing the skills and competencies that employers value.
Available Disciplines
We are seeking passionate, ambitious graduates in the following fields:
Chemical Engineering – Gain exposure to process analysis, efficiency improvement, and technical reporting while working with experienced engineers on optimization projects.
Mine Surveying – Work closely with qualified Surveyors to gain hands-on experience with underground and surface survey practices, utilizing modern survey instruments and software.
Environmental Studies – Collaborate with Mine Permitting and Environmental teams to understand environmental management, compliance, and sustainable mining practices.
Mine Ventilation – Develop expertise in ventilation management, occupational hygiene, and regulatory compliance under the supervision of qualified Ventilation Officers and Engineers.
Mining Engineering – Immerse yourself in geotechnical and underground mining environments, working on process analysis, efficiency improvement, and technical projects.
Occupational Health – Work alongside qualified Occupational Health professionals to gain exposure to workplace health monitoring, compliance systems, and safety protocols.
Rock Engineering – Gain practical experience in geotechnical monitoring, rock mechanics, and underground stability analysis within a dynamic mining operation.
Health & Safety – Partner with HSE staff to understand safety management systems, risk assessments, incident investigations, and regulatory compliance in mining.

Requirements
To be considered for this programme, you must have:
- A National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in one of the specified disciplines
- Strong academic record demonstrating commitment to excellence
- Problem-solving and analytical skills relevant to your field
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- Computer literacy (MS Office and discipline-specific software)
- Medical fitness to work in mining or processing environments
- Willingness to work on-site and in remote locations
- South African citizenship
