Transport Department | Johannesburg | 18-Month Contract

Are you a recently qualified graduate with a passion for marketing, communications, and public service? The City of Johannesburg (CoJ) Transport Department is offering an exciting internship opportunity to help shape the future of urban mobility in one of Africa’s most dynamic cities.

About the Role

As a Marketing and Communication Intern, you will play a vital role in supporting the Rea Vaya Bus Rapid Transit system — Johannesburg’s flagship public transport network. Working from our offices at 75 Helen Joseph Street, Old Mutual Building, you will be at the heart of customer engagement, helping to deliver exceptional service experiences to thousands of daily commuters.

This is more than just an internship. It is your opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a real-world government environment, build meaningful professional relationships, and contribute to a transport system that connects communities across the city.

What You’ll Do

You will provide accurate, professional information to customers about CoJ transport products and services, handle and resolve customer queries and complaints, and maintain detailed records of all customer interactions. You will also support stakeholder relations activities, assist with reporting on customer care performance, and help build the Rea Vaya brand through consistent, high-quality communication — both internally and externally.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re seeking motivated, people-oriented graduates who are eager to learn and ready to make a difference. You should hold a Diploma or Degree (NQF Level 6 or 7) in Marketing, Business Management, or Business Administration. No prior work experience is required — your enthusiasm, initiative, and commitment to service excellence are what matter most.

Strong communication skills — written and verbal — along with computer literacy in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and a genuine passion for customer service will set you apart.
