The Opportunity

This exciting internship is based at David Brown South Africa in Benoni, where approximately 170 employees contribute to a dynamic, high-performance environment that blends global standards with meaningful local impact. You’ll report directly to the Engineering Team Leader and gain hands-on experience in technical engineering processes.

Purpose of the Role

As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, you’ll provide essential technical support within our Engineering Department. Your responsibilities will include conducting gear unit assessments, preparing repair scopes, coordinating engineering processes, and ensuring all activities are executed accurately, efficiently, and in line with company quality standards and customer requirements.

Key Accountabilities

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Conducting assessments and preparing repair scopes for approval
• Coordinating inspections and collaborating with internal departments
• Liaising with customers, suppliers, and sales teams on technical requirements
• Supporting breakdowns, failure investigations, and off-site inspections
• Ensuring accurate documentation and timely project follow-ups
• Assisting with costing, proposals, and general engineering administration

Key Requirements & Qualifications

We’re looking for candidates with:

• A BEng in Mechanical Engineering (essential)
• Basic understanding of heavy machinery, materials, and manufacturing processes
• Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidEdge preferred) and Microsoft Office
• Valid driver’s license and passport – willingness to travel locally and internationally
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and production schedule-driven approach
• ERP experience is an advantage
