Eskom, South Africa’s leading electricity and energy supplier, is seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Engineering Technician to join our Maintenance Department at the Gariep Power Station. As a key member of our Peaking Generation team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the optimal performance of our power generation plant. Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining and optimizing allocated systems to ensure maximum reliability and plant availability. Your duties will include verifying that correct components, spares, and services are procured according to specifications, as well as assisting with plant modifications designed to improve overall reliability and performance.

You will provide valuable advice and support for staff development initiatives, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth within the team. Project supervision and contract management will form part of your responsibilities, requiring strong organizational and leadership skills. Strict compliance with the permit-to-work system is essential to maintain the highest safety standards at all times.

What We’re Looking For

Qualifications

  • National Diploma or National N Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field
  • P1 and P2 Experiential Training certification

Experience

  • Proven experience in maintenance operations within an industrial or power generation environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work with complex mechanical systems

Technical Knowledge

  • Extensive knowledge of National and International Engineering Codes and Standards
  • Understanding of plant fundamental policies and procedures
  • Comprehensive safety knowledge and awareness
  • Familiarity with HV/LV Regulations
  • Quality Control principles and practices

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Computer literacy across relevant software platforms
  • Excellent diagnostic skills for troubleshooting mechanical issues
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams
