About the Opportunity
The French South African Institute of Technology – Aerospace Systems Integration Centre (FSATI-ASIC) is excited to offer an exceptional opportunity for a motivated and talented Mechanical Engineering Trainee to join our dynamic team. This one-year contract position provides invaluable hands-on experience in the cutting-edge field of aerospace and satellite engineering.
As a trainee with FSATI-ASIC, you will work alongside experienced engineers on real-world projects, primarily focused on satellites and space engineering applications. This is more than an internship—it’s a launchpad for your engineering career, offering practical exposure to mechanical design, testing, prototyping, and advanced problem-solving in one of the most exciting fields of modern engineering.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Assist in the design, analysis, and testing of mechanical components and systems for aerospace applications
- Support CAD modeling, drafting, and preparation of technical documentation
- Participate actively in prototype development, laboratory testing, and performance evaluation activities
- Conduct research to support ongoing engineering projects and contribute to innovation
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical engineers, software developers, and project managers to deliver innovative solutions
- Gain exposure to satellite systems and space engineering principles
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this position, candidates must:
- Be currently pursuing their final year towards a Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- Have proof of current registration at an accredited institution
Essential Skills and Competencies
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Basic knowledge of CAD software such as SolidWorks, NX, AutoCAD, or similar platforms
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A genuine passion for engineering, innovation, and continuous learning
- The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality work
