The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is offering an exciting 18-month internship opportunity within the world-renowned Mandela Mining Precinct — and we’re looking for two talented graduates to join our team.

As an intern within the Mandela Mining Precinct, you won’t just be observing — you’ll be actively contributing to cutting-edge research and development of competitive mining technologies alongside experienced engineers and researchers.

What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll be embedded in cross-functional teams, working across mine sites and engaging with industry stakeholders. Your day-to-day will include conducting in-depth literature reviews of local and international mining research, carrying out time and motion studies on mining engineering technologies at active mine sites, and engaging directly with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). You’ll also write technical reports, present your findings, and support project administration — building a well-rounded professional foundation.
Who We’re Looking For
You hold a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mining and you’re hungry to learn. Postgraduate qualifications are a bonus, as is exposure to metalliferous or mechanised mining environments. Beyond academics, we’re looking for someone who is self-motivated, analytically sharp, detail-oriented, and thrives under pressure. A valid driver’s licence and a clean criminal record are advantageous.
