About the Programme

The In-Service Training programme is designed to develop and support Chemical Engineering students by integrating their academic foundation with practical experience in a live production environment. Trainees will be immersed in NCP Chlorchem’s operations with the aim of cultivating professionals who can meaningfully contribute to process optimisation, safety management, and operational efficiency — while building the competencies required for future roles in the chemical industry.

Key Responsibilities

As an In-Service Trainee, you will be expected to:

• Attend and participate in theoretical and practical learning components within the Chemical Engineering function, including HAZOP and MOC training
• Complete logbooks and all required summative assessments in line with your institutional requirements
• Carry out industry-related workplace experience activities across NCP Chlorchem’s operations
• Complete plant assessments within your designated areas
• Compile and submit technical reports as required

Skills and Competencies Required

Successful candidates will demonstrate the following:

• Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
• Good interpersonal and communication skills — both verbal and written
• Strong attention to detail
• Sound planning and organising abilities

Qualifications

To be considered, applicants must meet the following academic requirements:

• Matric certificate with Mathematics and Sciences
• Completed S4 subjects in Chemical Engineering with a minimum 60% average and 65% on major subjects
• Statement of results
• Letter from your University confirming the workplace experience requirement

No prior work experience is required.

Personal Circumstances

• Applicants must be able to obtain a satisfactory medical report from NCP Chlorchem’s medical centre
