Are you a qualified and experienced Plant Engineer ready to take your career to the next level? Clover, South Africa’s leading branded foods and beverages group, has an excellent opportunity at its Gqeberha plant for a dynamic and results-driven Plant Engineer. We are looking for an individual who can effectively manage our engineering and maintenance departments while ensuring continuous improvement in plant operations.

About the Role:
As the Plant Engineer, you will be responsible for managing the total engineering function at the branch. You will play a critical role in delivering an effective engineering service to manufacturing, focusing on enhancing plant productivity, reliability, and safety. Your leadership will ensure the availability and predictability of the plant, drive cost efficiencies, and optimize overall performance.

Minimum Requirements:

  • GCC: Factories or equivalent qualification
  • Relevant Degree: NQF level 7 or higher in Engineering
  • Language: Fluent in Business English
  • Driver’s License: Code 08
  • Computer Literacy: Advanced (MS Office and engineering systems)
  • Experience:
    • Proven track record in applying job-related concepts, techniques, and processes
    • People management experience in an engineering environment
    • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays as required

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Engineering Management:

  • Lead the total engineering function at the plant
  • Ensure effective management of Maintenance, Mechanical, and Process Control functions (PPSSTs)
  • Organize and execute normal and major maintenance activities
  • Oversee modification control processes and HAZOP studies for safe and efficient plant operations
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize productivity and plant performance
  • Ensure compliance with GMR2 responsibilities and maintain the safe operation of all equipment

People Leadership:

  • Manage, develop, and motivate the engineering team
  • Set clear performance targets and conduct regular performance reviews
  • Identify training needs and act as coach and mentor to build team competencies
  • Ensure robust succession planning and development of team strengths
  • Manage the department’s reporting functions and ensure accurate documentation

Cost and Efficiency Management:

  • Manage fixed costs, capital, and maintenance expenditures within approved budgets
  • Monitor and control energy and services consumption to improve efficiency and reduce costs

Project Management:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of technical standards (design, applications, drawings, specifications, process control, and new technology)
  • Oversee and ensure the successful execution of engineering projects
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver projects on time and within budget
