Rand Water and Govan Mbeki Local Municipality invite unemployed South African graduates under 35 to apply for a three-year Graduate Internship Programme across engineering, natural science, GIS, and construction project management disciplines. Closing date: 09 March 2026.

Govan Mbeki Local Municipality and Rand Water take great pleasure in inviting suitably qualified and unemployed graduates to participate in an exciting three-year fixed term Graduate Internship Programme. This is a unique and valuable opportunity for young South African graduates to gain meaningful, structured work experience within one of the country’s most critical public entities in the water sector. The programme is designed to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and professional practice, while simultaneously supporting graduates in meeting the requirements for registration with their respective statutory councils.

Rand Water is one of the largest water utilities in Africa, playing a central role in the supply of bulk potable water to Gauteng and surrounding regions. About the Programme

Over the three-year period, successful candidates will be immersed in a structured training environment where they will be expected to apply the theoretical knowledge gained during their studies to real-world challenges within the water and infrastructure sector. Graduates will work alongside experienced professionals and will be guided through a development journey that is aligned to the requirements of the relevant statutory councils, including ECSA, SAGC, SACPLAN, SACNASP, and SACPCMP. By the end of the programme, graduates will have demonstrated the proficiencies required to pursue formal professional registration, positioning them well for long-term career success.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must hold a relevant BSc or BEng qualification, at Honours or Masters level where applicable, from an accredited South African university. Candidates must be currently unemployed and must be South African citizens in possession of a valid South African identity document. In line with the National Skills Development Strategy III, applicants must be under the age of 35 at the time of application. A valid Code 08 driver’s licence is not compulsory but will be considered an advantage. Candidates who are already registered as candidates with their respective statutory councils will similarly be viewed favourably. All appointments will be made within the framework of Rand Water’s Employment Equity policy.

To be considered, applicants must submit a comprehensive Curriculum Vitae, a certified copy of their ID document, a certified copy of their Matric Certificate together with their latest academic record, and certified copies of all relevant qualifications. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Selection Process

Shortlisted candidates will be required to undergo competency assessments and security clearance checks. Qualification verification will also be conducted, and candidates will be expected to present original qualification certificates and academic transcripts or statements of results at the relevant stage of the process.
