Position Overview

RCL Foods is offering an exciting opportunity for a passionate and motivated individual to join our Baking Division as an Operations & Production Intern. This role, based in Krugersdorp, Gauteng, will give you the chance to gain valuable hands-on experience in a production and manufacturing environment. You will be working closely with the Production Manager and the Operations Team to learn the ins and outs of production operations, gain exposure to real-world projects, and develop key skills that will be essential to your career in operations management.

As an intern, you will be tasked with performing various duties and responsibilities, participating in projects, and supporting the production team in achieving departmental goals. Key Responsibilities

  • Training and Development:
    You will receive training under the guidance of the Production Manager and Operations Team Leadership. This training will expose you to various operational and manufacturing processes, including production planning, scheduling, and the implementation of operational procedures. You will learn the fundamentals of managing production lines, quality assurance, safety protocols, and process improvements.
  • Project Participation:
    As an intern, you will actively participate in projects from the start through to completion. This will involve working collaboratively with team members, applying problem-solving techniques, and providing support in ensuring project milestones are met. You will be tasked with various aspects of project management, helping to ensure the efficient execution of projects aligned with business objectives.
  • Production Support:
    Your role will involve assisting with day-to-day tasks related to production. This includes supporting the team in maintaining production schedules, monitoring production line efficiency, addressing any operational challenges that may arise, and ensuring that quality standards are consistently met. Your responsibilities will be based on the production needs of the business and will vary from day to day.
  • Reporting & Analysis:
    You will be required to assist with compiling reports on production performance, including analyzing data to identify areas for improvement and providing recommendations for optimization. Attention to detail and a strong analytical mindset will be essential to succeed in this aspect of the role.
  • Collaboration with Teams:
    A key component of this internship will be your ability to work independently and as part of a team. You will collaborate with various departments to ensure smooth production processes, resolve issues, and support the implementation of new initiatives. Effective communication skills will be essential to ensuring alignment across teams.
  • Safety & Compliance:
    A key responsibility will be ensuring that safety standards and operational procedures are adhered to. You will be trained on RCL Foods’ safety protocols, and your role will involve supporting efforts to maintain a safe and compliant working environment.

Requirements

To be eligible for this internship, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Educational Qualifications:
    The intern must have achieved an NQF Level 5 or completed all S5 theoretical training in one of the following fields:
    • Industrial Engineering
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Operations Management
    • Electrical Engineering (Electronic, Power, Process Control & Computer Systems)
    • Chemical Engineering
    • Mechatronics Engineering
  • Academic Performance:
    You must have passed all required subjects with an average of at least 50% at NQF Level 5. This will ensure that you have the foundational knowledge necessary to succeed in the internship and contribute effectively to the production team.
  • Key Skills and Attributes:
    • Self-Starter: A strong ability to take initiative, work independently, and demonstrate a proactive approach to tasks.
    • Can-Do Attitude: A positive and adaptable mindset, with the willingness to take on challenges and learn on the job.

  • Availability:
    The internship is specifically for learners who are required to complete a 12-month workplace exposure to meet the requirements of their studies. As such, students who have already completed their qualification will not be considered for this role.
