Renergen, a leading South African clean energy company, invites unemployed TVET graduates and current university students to apply for its Production Internship Programme for 2026–2028. This opportunity is ideal for Chemical Engineering students or graduates who require Work Integrated Learning (WIL) or in-service training to complete their qualifications.
The internship will be based at Renergen’s Virginia Gas Plant in the Free State, South Africa. Renergen is best known for the Virginia Gas Project, the first facility in South Africa to produce both liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquid helium, placing the company at the forefront of sustainable and alternative energy solutions.
This programme offers four (4) Production Internship positions over a two-year period, providing interns with extensive plant-based exposure that goes beyond the typical 12-month internship. Interns will rotate across various production and operational roles, receive structured mentorship, and gain real-world experience in a live industrial environment.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- N6 or S4 in Chemical Engineering
- TVET students must require in-service training
- University of Technology students must require WIL placement
- No prior plant experience required
- Valid South African ID
- Valid driver’s licence (Code 08 or higher) – mandatory
- Free State residents preferred, especially from Virginia or Welkom
- Available to start in February 2026
Key Responsibilities
Interns will gain hands-on exposure by:
- Assisting with daily plant operations
- Monitoring production processes and collecting operational data
- Supporting process optimisation initiatives
- Participating in safety inspections and compliance checks
- Learning about gas production systems and plant equipment
- Assisting engineering teams during maintenance and shutdowns
- Reporting deviations and supporting continuous improvement efforts
