About the Bursary
Southern Sphere Platinum is a mining development company with operations in the Steelpoort area, focusing on platinum group metals and chrome. Through this bursary programme, the company aims to support the development of future professionals who will contribute to the growth of the mining and related industries.
The bursary offers financial support of up to R200,000 per student and may cover the following:
- Tuition fees
- University accommodation or approved private accommodation
- Prescribed textbooks
- Meal allowance
Please note that the bursary does not cover any outstanding fees from previous academic years.

Minimum Requirements
To be considered, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must be from a local community within the Sekhukhune District
- Must be currently enrolled as a second-year student
- Must be studying in one of the listed fields
- Must have achieved a minimum average of 60% in first-year results
- Must be studying at one of the following institutions: University of Limpopo, North-West University, University of the Witwatersrand, University of Johannesburg, or University of Pretoria
Applicants who are already receiving another bursary will not be considered. Preference may be given to students who can demonstrate financial need.
Required Documents
Applicants must submit certified copies of the following:
- South African ID document
- Matric certificate
- Full academic record (first-year results)
- Proof of university registration or acceptance
- Proof of residence in the Sekhukhune District
Incomplete or late applications may not be considered.
