Standard Bank — Personal & Private Banking (PPB) Data Science Graduate Programme 2026
At Standard Bank, data is not merely an asset — it is the engine of innovation that powers growth across the African continent. As one of Africa’s foremost financial institutions, Standard Bank is building a world-class data science function, and the Personal & Private Banking (PPB) Data Science Graduate Programme puts talented, quantitatively-minded graduates right at the centre of that ambition.
This graduate programme is built for individuals who are deeply curious, technically gifted, and driven by the challenge of solving real client problems through data. If you are obsessed with uncovering insights, building predictive models, and delivering bespoke analytical solutions that make a tangible difference, this is the programme for you.

You will also support the development of advanced statistical models and machine learning algorithms that address critical business questions, code and test scientific models, and utilise data profiling and visualisation tools to guide modelling decisions. Working under the mentorship of experienced data scientists, you will learn to present findings confidently, defend recommendations, and translate complex outputs into accessible business narratives.
On the technology side, you will build machine learning models using Python or R, work with distributed data processing platforms such as Hadoop, HDFS, Spark, and Kafka, and contribute to productionalising automation software that drives operational efficiency across the bank.
Throughout the programme, you will collaborate with the Data Science Guild and liaise with subject matter experts and business stakeholders, gaining a broad view of how data science integrates across a large, complex financial institution.
To qualify, you must hold, or be completing by 31 December 2026, an Honours or Master’s degree in Data Science or Analytics, Statistics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Quantitative Risk Management, or Engineering (Computer, Industrial, Electronic, Electrical, Mechatronic, Mechanical, or Chemical). You must be a South African citizen with no more than 24 months of prior work experience, a minimum academic average of 70% for third-year undergraduate studies, and a minimum of 65% for Honours or Master’s studies.
