About This Opportunity
Eskom, South Africa’s leading electricity supplier, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Technician – Control & Instrumentation to join our Maintenance Department at the Gariep Power Station in the Free State. This permanent position offers an exciting opportunity to work within our Peaking Generation Business Unit, playing a crucial role in ensuring the optimal reliability and availability of critical power generation infrastructure.
As a Task Grade T11 technician, you will be instrumental in maintaining and optimizing control and instrumentation systems that are vital to our nation’s energy security. This role is ideal for a dedicated professional who thrives in a technical environment and is passionate about contributing to South Africa’s power generation capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining and optimizing allocated systems to ensure maximum plant reliability and availability. Your duties will include verifying that correct components, spares, and services are procured according to specifications, and assisting with modifications designed to improve plant reliability and performance.
You will play an important role in staff development by advising and assisting with training initiatives, helping to build the technical capabilities of your colleagues. Project management and contract supervision activities will form part of your responsibilities, requiring strong organizational and leadership skills. Strict compliance with the permit-to-work system is essential to maintain the highest safety standards at all times.
What We’re Looking For
Essential Qualifications:
- National Diploma or National N Diploma in a Technical field
- Completion of P1 & P2 Experiential Training
- Relevant experience in maintenance operations
Technical Knowledge & Skills:
- Extensive knowledge of National and International Engineering Codes and Standards
- Understanding of Plant fundamental policies and procedures
- Comprehensive safety knowledge and HV/LV Regulations expertise
- Quality Control proficiency
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Computer literacy
- Excellent diagnostic skills
- Effective communication capabilities
