Eskom Peaking Generation is seeking a skilled and dedicated Mechanical Engineering Technician to join our maintenance team at the Gariep Hydro Power Station in the Free State. About the Role

As a Mechanical Engineering Technician at our Gariep facility, you will play a critical role in ensuring the optimal reliability and availability of our power generation plant. This permanent position offers market-related remuneration and the chance to work with sophisticated mechanical systems in a dynamic and challenging environment.

Key Responsibilities

Your primary focus will be maintaining and optimizing allocated mechanical systems to ensure uninterrupted power generation. You’ll verify that correct components, spares, and services are procured, while assisting with plant modifications designed to improve reliability. The role includes advising on staff development initiatives, performing project and contract supervision activities, and ensuring strict compliance with our permit-to-work system.

This position demands technical excellence combined with strong leadership capabilities. You’ll be expected to mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technical proficiency.

What We’re Looking For

Essential Qualifications:

  • National Diploma or National N Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (Technical)
  • Completed P1 and P2 Experiential Training
  • Relevant experience in maintenance operations

Technical Expertise:

  • Extensive knowledge of National and International Engineering Codes and Standards
  • Understanding of plant fundamental policies and safety protocols
  • Familiarity with HV/LV Regulations and quality control procedures
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Computer literacy and diagnostic skills
  • Excellent communication abilities
