The Roles

Role 1 — Professional Technician (Pr.Techni.Eng)

We are seeking an experienced Professional Technician with a high level of competence in the testing and maintenance of substation equipment. You will lead substation testing and commissioning, perform high-voltage maintenance and inspections, ensure compliance with ESCA and industry standards, and provide expert field service support across multiple sites.

Role 2 — Technician in Training (TIT) — Scholarship Position

This is a structured scholarship opportunity aimed at developing the next generation of engineering professionals. You will follow a graduate development programme designed to build your field service competencies within a set training framework, with the clear objective of registering with ESCA as a qualified professional. You will be expected to master on-site work and demonstrate growth at every stage of the programme. Applicants who still need to complete P1 and P2 will be considered.


Qualifications & Experience

For the Pr.Techni.Eng role, you must have a high level of competence in substation equipment maintenance and testing. For the TIT role, you must have completed all subjects for your S4 Diploma in Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current).

Candidate Requirements

All applicants must meet the following criteria: South African citizenship, a valid Code 8 Driver’s Licence, own reliable transport, non-smoker and non-alcohol user, fluency in English, and a working knowledge of basic Afrikaans. You must present yourself professionally, maintain a positive attitude toward your work, and be willing to relocate from time to time during the first three years of employment to optimise your training experience.

Package & Remuneration

Salary packages are market related and competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The TIT scholarship position includes a structured development programme with a clear pathway to professional ESCA registration.
