Robertson and Caine, a leading manufacturer of sailing and power-driven catamarans based in Montague Gardens, Cape Town, is looking for a Junior Electrical Engineer to join its R&D Department on a permanent basis.
About the Role
Reporting to the R&D Manager, the Junior Electrical Engineer will assist with all electrical engineering activities across both technical and process functions. The role focuses on safety, quality, manufacturing efficiency, model integration, and supporting company goals through the creation and maintenance of procedures, technical instructions, and Bill of Materials control across the production floor.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and compile technical documents used in manufacturing and quality control, including manufacturing drawings, work instructions, electrical schematics, assembly drawings, training instructions, checklists, risk assessments, and technical bulletins
- Create and control Bill of Materials for various production lines and offsite manufacturing
- Communicate design roll-out information to relevant departments and provide feedback to the R&D Manager to ensure successful implementation
- Support several production lines building both sailing and power-driven yachts, improving processes and task efficiency
- Carry out electrical system design and detailing work for new product development and continuous improvement initiatives
- Conduct audits to confirm manufacturing quality, BOM accuracy, and process compliance
- Research new techniques and products to improve design and manufacturing processes
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum Diploma in Electrical or Mechatronics Engineering, or a related qualification
- 1–2 years’ design experience in the manufacturing industry, boat building experience preferred
- Thorough understanding of design for manufacturing and build sequence
- Excellent working knowledge of AutoCAD/Draftsight, with basic knowledge of SolidWorks (speed and accuracy tests will be conducted in both programs)
- Excellent working knowledge of MS Office, particularly Excel
- Boat building knowledge or experience is preferred
