The Opportunity
As an Engineering Intern at FUCHS South Africa, you will be embedded within the operations environment and gain practical, real-world exposure to Lean manufacturing principles, continuous improvement methodologies and cross-functional collaboration. This is not a passive observational role — you will be an active contributor, working alongside experienced professionals and making a measurable impact from day one.
Key Responsibilities
As part of the engineering team, your responsibilities will include:
- Providing active support for Kaizen events and Lean manufacturing initiatives, helping to identify waste, improve processes and drive operational efficiencies across the facility.
- Assisting in the maintenance and regular updating of digital performance dashboards, ensuring that data is accurate, current and accessible to key stakeholders.
- Conducting data analysis to track performance trends and evaluate the effectiveness of ongoing improvement projects, translating raw data into meaningful insights.
- Collaborating with departments including IT, quality assurance and production to ensure that technical deliverables are aligned with broader business goals and timelines.
- Compiling technical reports and updating work instructions to reflect process changes, improvements and standard operating procedures.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this internship, you should meet the following criteria:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
- A working knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Strong problem-solving ability and confident presentation skills.
- Competency in technical report writing.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office — particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint — is essential.
