Sanlam, one of Africa’s largest and most respected financial services groups, is inviting applications from exceptional graduating accounting students to join its prestigious CA Training Programme through the TOPP (Training Outside Public Practice) Articles path. This is a rare opportunity to complete your SAICA-accredited training within a globally active, JSE-listed financial services giant — and to emerge as a fully qualified Chartered Accountant CA(SA).
About Sanlam
Founded as a life insurance company in South Africa, Sanlam has grown into a diversified financial services powerhouse with operations across 30 countries, including the African continent, India, Malaysia, and selected developed markets. The Group holds listings on the Johannesburg, A2X, and Namibian stock exchanges and carries the distinction of being the largest non-banking financial services group on the African continent. Its five business clusters — Sanlam Fintech, Sanlam Life and Savings, Sanlam Investment Group, Sanlam Allianz, and Santam — collectively create a vast ecosystem of learning, exposure, and career opportunity for aspiring CAs.
About the Programme
The Sanlam CA Training Programme is structured around SAICA’s regulatory framework, providing trainees with the prescribed technical and professional competencies required to qualify as a CA(SA). Over three years, trainees rotate through Group Office and the various business clusters, gaining hands-on exposure across a broad range of disciplines including Financial Reporting, Taxation, Internal Audit, Risk Management, Governance, and Business Strategy. Trainees become active contributors to Sanlam’s value creation process — not passive observers.
Competency areas covered during rotations include Ethics and Citizenship, Business Acumen, Decision-Making, Digital Acumen, Managerial Accounting, and Relational Skills, among others. Trainees also participate in interim and annual financial reporting processes and are expected to take ownership of ad-hoc projects and special assignments throughout the programme.
What You Will Need
To be considered, applicants must hold a Certificate in the Theory of Accountancy (CTA) or a postgraduate qualification recognised by SAICA as a prerequisite for admission to the Initial Assessment of Competence (IAC). A minimum academic average of 60% is required. Involvement in a university society, community organisation, or non-profit structure is advantageous, as is working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
The ideal candidate is self-driven, ethically grounded, and intellectually curious — someone who takes accountability seriously, collaborates naturally across teams, and is committed to the continuous development of their technical and professional skills.
Why Sanlam
Sanlam invests meaningfully in its people. As a trainee, you will be supported through structured development, meaningful mentorship, and real-world exposure that goes far beyond a traditional training environment. The Group’s commitment to transformation, diversity, and inclusion means that every candidate is assessed equitably, with Employment Equity targets forming part of the selection process.
The closing date for applications is 31 May 2026.
