The City of Johannesburg (CoJ), Human Settlements Department, is inviting applications from suitably qualified and unemployed graduates for an exciting internship opportunity within the Executive Director’s Office. This is a fantastic chance for young professionals to gain meaningful hands-on experience within a dynamic municipal environment while contributing to the delivery of essential human settlements services across Johannesburg.
About the Opportunity
The internship is based within the Business Management Directorate of the Human Settlements Department and is designed to provide developmental-level exposure to professional administrative work, research, and analysis. Successful candidates will participate in the day-to-day operations of the Directorate, gaining practical skills across a broad range of functions including general office administration, monitoring and evaluation, risk management, regulatory compliance, and human resources support. Interns will also contribute meaningfully to strategic planning activities, including the development of the Business Plan, Quarterly Reports, and strategic planning concept notes.
This is an eighteen (18) month fixed-term contract, offering a monthly stipend of R10 104,26 (total cost to company), and is located at 222 Smit Street, Braamfontein, Johannesburg.
Key Responsibilities
Interns appointed to the Executive Director’s Office will be expected to:
- Render developmental-level professional administrative and support services within the Business Management Directorate
- Support the planning and implementation of Human Settlements programmes across the region
- Assist with administrative duties including data entry, filing, and correspondence
- Assist with event planning, setup, and execution, covering logistics, marketing, and operations
- Support marketing and promotional efforts, including the creation of social media flyers and related materials
- Provide excellent customer service by responding to queries and resolving issues in a professional manner
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this internship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- A Matric / Grade 12 Certificate
- A National Diploma or Degree (NQF Level 6 or 7) in one of the following fields:
- Business Management
- Business Administration
- Journalism
- Media
- Public Administration
- Public Management
- No prior work experience is required
