Old Mutual is currently recruiting for four Trainee Internal Auditor positions across its Group Internal Audit function. Each role is unique in its focus area, but all share the same commitment: to give high-potential graduates the exposure, mentorship, and real-world experience needed to build extraordinary careers.

The Four Roles at a Glance

1. Trainee Internal Auditor: Technology and Cyber Risk

Location: Cape Town (Pinelands) | Hybrid

In an era where AI, cloud computing, and data analytics are reshaping every industry, Old Mutual’s GIA function is at the cutting edge. As a Trainee Internal Auditor in Technology and Cyber Risk, you will be embedded in teams that audit AI models, assess cloud security postures, apply data analytics and visualisation tools on live audits, and evaluate governance frameworks across technology systems. You will continuously learn new technologies and develop the skills to apply them in a real business context.

This role is ideal for graduates who are passionate about technology and want to see it through a risk and assurance lens. You will work alongside industry experts on some of the most forward-looking audit work in the South African financial services sector.

Minimum requirements: An Honours degree (or equivalent, completed by end of 2026) in Data Science, Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Analytics, or a related Commerce, Engineering, or Science discipline. A minimum 65% average over the last two years of study. South African citizenship.

2. Trainee Internal Auditor: General Internal Audit

Location: Cape Town (Pinelands) | Hybrid

The General Internal Audit stream offers graduates a broad and comprehensive introduction to the world of internal auditing. You will be responsible for delivering elements of audit assignments in line with GIA methodology and agreed quality standards. Working within a team of seasoned auditors, you will gain exposure to a wide range of business processes, controls, and risk environments across the Old Mutual Group.

This role suits graduates who are curious about how large organisations function, who enjoy problem-solving, and who want to develop a strong foundation in audit principles that can take them anywhere in their career.

Minimum requirements: An Honours degree (or equivalent, completed by end of 2026) in Internal Auditing. A minimum 65% average over the last two years of study. South African citizenship. Cape Town based. Experience or coursework in data analytics or marketing will be advantageous.

3. Trainee Internal Auditor: OM Insure

Location: Johannesburg | Hybrid

Old Mutual Insure is the short-term insurance arm of the Group, and this specialist stream offers graduates the opportunity to audit within that dynamic environment. You will deliver audit assignments in accordance with GIA methodology, gaining deep exposure to the governance, risk, and compliance landscape of the insurance sector. Knowledge of short-term insurance will be a distinct advantage, as will familiarity with data analytics tools and techniques.

This is a Johannesburg-based opportunity, ideal for graduates with a legal, insurance, or risk management background who want to build a career at the intersection of assurance and financial services.

Minimum requirements: An Honours degree (or equivalent, completed by end of 2026) in Law, Insurance, Risk Management, or a related discipline. A minimum 65% average over the last two years of study. South African citizenship. Johannesburg based.

4. Trainee Internal Auditor: PF Life and Customer

Location: Cape Town (Pinelands) | Hybrid

The PF Life and Customer stream focuses on the life insurance and personal finance segments of the Old Mutual business. Trainees in this role will execute audit work aligned with GIA methodology, gaining an understanding of how life insurance products, customer experience, and financial processes are governed and assured. A background in finance or auditing is essential, and experience with data analytics will give candidates an edge.

Minimum requirements: An Honours degree (or equivalent, completed by end of 2026) in Finance (B.Com or B.BusSci), Internal or External Auditing, or a similar qualification. A minimum 65% average over the last two years of study. South African citizenship. Cape Town based.
