Eskom, South Africa’s foremost electricity utility and one of the largest power companies on the African continent, is offering an exciting Engineer in Training Programme for 2026. This structured 24-month internship is based at the iconic Megawatt Park in Sunninghill, Johannesburg, and is open to graduates across five engineering disciplines — Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Chemical, and Industrial Engineering. With five positions available, this is a rare opportunity to launch your engineering career within one of the country’s most strategically important organisations.
About the Programme
Hosted within Eskom’s Real Estate Business Unit, this Engineer in Training programme is designed to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical engineering application. Over the course of 24 months, successful candidates will be immersed in both institutionalised training and hands-on, on-the-job experience. The programme is structured to develop well-rounded engineers who are capable of delivering technical solutions, producing engineering designs, and contributing meaningfully to a high-performance environment.
This is not a passive observership — trainees are expected to engage fully with Eskom’s engineering processes, apply their academic grounding to real-world challenges, and grow into professionals who embody Eskom’s commitment to technical excellence and service delivery.
What You Will Do
As an Engineer in Training, your key responsibilities will centre on providing engineering designs and technical solutions within your area of specialisation. You will engage with design codes and standards, apply engineering theory to live projects, and contribute to technical reporting and presentations. You will also develop your ability to conduct cost analyses and economic evaluations, sharpen your problem-solving skills, and build professional relationships across multidisciplinary teams.
Who Should Apply
Eskom is looking for graduates who bring more than just a qualification to the table. The ideal candidate is someone who is results-driven, integrity-focused, and genuinely hungry to learn. You should be safety-conscious, professional in your conduct, and capable of thinking with an entrepreneurial mindset. Strong communication skills — both written and verbal — are essential, as is the ability to work collaboratively and build effective working relationships.
Minimum Qualification: BSc or BEng in Engineering in one of the following disciplines:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Chemical Engineering
- Industrial Engineering
No prior work experience is required — your degree and your drive are what matter most.
