Eskom, South Africa’s foremost electricity utility, is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Technician: Maintenance and Commissioning Protection based at either the Acacia or Ankerlig Peaking Power Station in the Western Cape. This is a permanent opportunity within Eskom’s Generation Engineering Business Unit, specifically under the Protection PTM (Plant, Technical and Maintenance) department.
About the Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for executing secondary plant maintenance and commissioning activities, as well as turnkey commissioning projects spanning the full project lifecycle — from initial planning through to final commissioning and re-commissioning. The role sits within the specialised field of Electrical Protection, demanding both technical precision and a strong commitment to safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
The appointed Technician will be expected to:
- Implement maintenance and commissioning activities on electrical protection systems
- Perform operational activities in support of plant performance and reliability
- Co-ordinate maintenance and commissioning activities across relevant teams and stakeholders
- Build and maintain productive client and stakeholder relationships within the business unit

Technical Knowledge

Skills
Strong problem-solving ability, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills, are expected. A valid Code B driver’s licence is required.
Physical Attributes
The role requires clear speech, good hearing, mobility, colour vision, good eyesight, and balance — all essential for safe and effective execution of duties in a power station environment.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
- Qualification: National Diploma or N6 Diploma in Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current or Light Current)
- Experience: No prior work experience required — this position is open to recent graduates and entry-level candidates
