Eskom, South Africa’s leading electricity utility, is inviting applications for a Technician Maintenance (Control & Instrumentation) position at its Kriel Power Station in Mpumalanga. About the Role

Based within the Control and Instrumentation Maintenance department at Kriel Power Station, the successful candidate will be responsible for assuring the optimum reliability and availability of plant systems. This is a hands-on technical role that demands both engineering competence and a commitment to operational excellence — making it an ideal fit for a disciplined instrumentation or control systems technician looking to grow within a large-scale power utility environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and optimise allocated control and instrumentation systems to ensure peak plant performance
  • Verify that correct components, spares, and services are procured in line with plant requirements
  • Assist with plant modifications aimed at improving reliability and reducing downtime
  • Advise and support staff development within the maintenance team
  • Perform project and contract supervision activities as required
  • Comply strictly with the permit-to-work system and all applicable safety regulations
  • Carry out administration and reporting activities associated with maintenance operations

Required Skills and Competencies

Candidates must demonstrate a strong blend of technical knowledge and interpersonal ability:

Knowledge: Extensive understanding of national and international engineering codes and standards; familiarity with plant fundamental policies; solid grounding in safety knowledge, plant safety regulations, and quality control principles.

Technical Skills: Strong analytical and diagnostic abilities; computer literacy; effective problem-solving skills; sound communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.

Behavioural Attributes: Integrity, honesty, trustworthiness, and professionalism are non-negotiable. The ideal candidate will be a capable team player with demonstrated leadership qualities — someone who can motivate, coach, mentor, and develop colleagues in a high-pressure operational environment.

Minimum Requirements

  • Qualification: Grade 12 plus a National Diploma or National N Diploma (Technical field)
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of related experience, or successful completion of P1 & P2 Experiential Training
  • Employment Equity: This is a designated EE position; preference will be given to candidates from under-represented groups in line with Eskom’s Employment Equity Plan
