About the Role
The Millwright Apprentice will assist with the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical equipment while undergoing structured technical training under the guidance of qualified artisans and engineers. You will gain practical exposure across real manufacturing and production environments, building the skills and competence required to qualify as a fully-fledged millwright.
The role reports to the Unit Manager / Operational Lead and requires 100% on-site attendance at the Boksburg factory.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist qualified millwrights with maintenance and repair of production equipment and machinery
- Support fault finding and troubleshooting on mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
- Participate in planned, preventative, and breakdown maintenance activities
- Assist with equipment installations, modifications, and commissioning activities
- Learn and apply safe working procedures and engineering standards
- Use engineering tools and measuring instruments correctly and safely
- Maintain housekeeping standards across workshops and production areas
- Complete logbooks, training assessments, and apprenticeship requirements as prescribed
- Support continuous improvement and equipment reliability initiatives
- Adhere to safety, quality, and GMP standards within the plant environment
Exposure Areas
During the apprenticeship, candidates will gain practical exposure in: mechanical maintenance, electrical systems, pneumatics and hydraulics, PLC and automation systems, preventative maintenance, and equipment reliability and troubleshooting.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric certificate with Mathematics and Physical Science
- N2/N3 or relevant engineering studies will be advantageous
- Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical principles
- Computer literacy advantageous
- Ability to work shifts and overtime when required
Skills and Competencies
Candidates should demonstrate a strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and a genuine willingness to develop technical skills. Good communication, teamwork, and the ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced manufacturing environment are essential.
