About the Role
As an Electrical Apprentice, you’ll be part of Diageo’s 30,000-strong global workforce—over half of whom work in Supply Chain and Manufacturing. You’ll support the maintenance team in the daily operations of our sophisticated FMCG production plant, gaining practical skills that will form the foundation of a rewarding electrical engineering career.
Your responsibilities will include assisting with the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical and automated equipment across our facility. You’ll work with motors, sensors, conveyors, and control panels while learning to troubleshoot electrical faults and interpret complex wiring diagrams and schematics. You’ll also gain exposure to PLC panels, industrial drives, and control systems that power modern manufacturing. During preventive maintenance cycles and machine breakdowns, you’ll be instrumental in reducing downtime and keeping production flowing smoothly.
Safety is paramount in everything we do. You’ll perform testing on electrical circuits and equipment using industry-standard instruments and ensure all work meets stringent health, safety, and food-safety regulations. You’ll also develop the discipline of maintaining organized work areas and managing tools and spare parts responsibly.
What We’re Looking For
You’ll have your Matric (Grade 12) qualification and an N2–N6 Electrical Engineering qualification. Basic knowledge of industrial electrical systems is essential, as is your ability to work shifts in a factory environment and your understanding of safety standards in manufacturing plants.
Beyond qualifications, we value practical skills: electrical troubleshooting, basic industrial automation knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to perform under pressure when breakdowns occur. You’ll be a team player who collaborates effectively with both production and maintenance colleagues.
