Designed to promote academic excellence and develop future African talent, this bursary offers comprehensive financial support to deserving students pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate studies across a wide range of disciplines.
Who Can Apply?
The bursary is open to students studying in the following fields:
- Agriculture
- Commerce
- Engineering
- Mathematics
- Science (Actuarial, Analytics, Business, Computer, Data, Information)
- Statistics
- Technology (Financial, Information)
- Behavioural Economics and its related disciplines, including Economics, Behavioural Finance, Sociology, Psychology, and Neuroscience
Undergraduate Bursary
The undergraduate bursary targets students who have successfully completed their first year of studies and require funding from their second year onwards. Applicants must be registered for full-time undergraduate studies at a recognised South African institution and must have achieved an academic average of 65% or above in their most recent examinations. Financial need is taken into account during the selection process. Shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a formal assessment, which includes psychometric evaluation and an interview.
Postgraduate Bursary
The postgraduate bursary supports financially deserving and academically capable students pursuing postgraduate qualifications up to Master’s level at a public South African institution of higher learning. The same minimum academic average of 65% applies, and applicants must be registered for full-time studies. As with the undergraduate bursary, shortlisted candidates will undergo a psychometric evaluation and interview as part of the selection process.
What Does the Bursary Cover?
The Standard Bank Group Bursary is a full-cost bursary, meaning successful recipients receive comprehensive support. The bursary covers:
- University tuition fees
- Accommodation (university residence or private accommodation, subject to limits)
- Meals (university-provided or self-catering)
- Books and study materials
- A laptop computer
- A monthly living stipend
- Transport between home and campus four times a year, equivalent to the cost of a bus ticket
This level of support is designed to allow students to focus entirely on their studies without the burden of financial stress.
Work-Back Agreement
Bursary recipients should note that upon graduation, if Standard Bank Group extends an offer of employment, beneficiaries will be required to work for the Bank. This presents an exceptional opportunity to launch a career at one of Africa’s leading financial institutions.
