About the Bursary
Nedbank’s External Bursary Programme is designed to support students studying towards a first undergraduate or Honours degree or diploma in the following fields:
- Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)
- Green Economy Skills – areas of study focused on improving social well-being and social equity, reducing environmental risks and ecological insufficiency, lowering carbon emissions and pollution, enhancing natural capital, and increasing energy and materials efficiency.
The bursary is awarded on the basis of both academic merit and financial need, giving students who truly deserve a chance the opportunity to access quality higher education.
Who Can Apply?
To be considered for the Nedbank External Bursary Programme, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- You must be a South African citizen
- You must be currently in Matric or have already completed Matric
- You must be studying or intending to study towards your first undergraduate or Honours degree or diploma in 2027, in a STEM or Green Economy field
- You must be enrolled at, or accepted by, a recognised and accredited public University or University of Technology in South Africa
- You must have a strong academic record
- You must have passed Mathematics in Matric – Mathematics Literacy does not qualify
- You must have achieved a minimum overall average of 65% for the 2026 academic year, whether at Matric or University level
- You must have achieved a minimum overall average of 65% across all subjects aligned to your university qualification
- You must demonstrate proven financial need, as determined by household income
- If you are under 18 years of age, you must have consent from a parent or legal guardian to apply
