Are you a South African student with ambitions of building a career in the financial services or short-term insurance industry? Santam Limited, South Africa’s largest general insurer, is inviting eligible students to apply for the Santam Bursary Programme, administered in partnership with StudyTrust.

This is more than just financial assistance — it is a strategic investment in your future, your career, and South Africa’s economy.

About the Programme

The Santam Bursary Programme was established as part of Santam’s Skills Development Academy to build a steady pipeline of skilled, high-calibre graduates equipped with core technical knowledge, strong behavioural competencies, and leadership potential. Santam recognises that South Africa’s financial services sector requires a continuous stream of talented professionals, and this programme is designed to make that possible.

By supporting students in fields directly relevant to the short-term insurance industry, Santam is actively closing critical skills gaps while creating meaningful career pathways for the next generation.

Who Should Apply?

Applications are open to South African citizens who will be enrolled as second-year, third-year, final-year undergraduate, or Honours students in 2027, studying towards a Postgraduate Diploma, Bachelor’s degree, or Honours degree in any of the following disciplines:

  • Actuarial Science, Data Analytics, Data Sciences, or Statistics
  • Agriculture (with a focus on crop production, plant production, or soil science)
  • Civil, Geomatics, or Mechanical Engineering
  • Construction
  • Insurance, Technical Accounting, Economics, Finance, or Mathematics
  • Risk Management

Applicants must have achieved an average of 65% or above in their undergraduate studies and in their most recent examinations. Preference will be given to Employment Equity candidates.

What Does the Bursary Cover?

Successful applicants can expect comprehensive financial support, including:

  • Registration and tuition fees
  • Accommodation (deposit, administration fees, and related costs)
  • Learning materials, including books and e-manuals
  • A laptop
  • A monthly living allowance
  • Travel and transport allowance

All costs are covered up to the applicable cap.

Additional Benefits for Agriculture Bursars

Students pursuing agricultural studies receive additional career-focused benefits beyond financial support. Agriculture bursars are automatically enrolled in Santam’s graduate programme, participate in vacation work, and are allocated a dedicated mentor. They are also invited to relevant business engagements and industry conferences, and the programme is structured with the intent to permanently retain graduates as trainee area managers — giving you a clear and committed career trajectory from day one.
