About the Role

As an Early Career Trainee Field Engineer, you will work under supervision to develop hands-on technical competence across GE HealthCare’s equipment portfolio. Your primary base will be Durban and surrounding assigned areas in the KZN Region, where you will be responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and servicing of complex medical imaging and diagnostic systems.

This is a structured graduate entry point designed to fast-track your development into a fully-fledged Field Service Engineer, with exposure to real-world technical challenges, direct customer interaction, and a globally recognised quality framework.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain all equipment models specific to an assigned modality within your geographic area
  • Perform electronic and mechanical troubleshooting at total system level, including complex multi-symptom problems
  • Interface daily with doctors and medical technicians regarding equipment status and resolution of technical issues
  • Assist in account sales visits and identify opportunities to communicate to the relevant account team
  • Support business growth initiatives within the assigned geographic region
  • Manage warranty and planned maintenance service (PMS) contract cost control
  • Complete all Field Modification Instructions (FMIs) and PMS inspection documentation accurately and on time
  • Play a contributing role in complex, multifunctional room installations and share best practices with the broader team
  • Maintain compliance with ISO 9001 quality standards in line with GE HealthCare’s Service Quality Policy

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or Biomedical Engineering
  • Strong technical analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent communication, listening, and interpersonal skills
  • High personal work standards and a results-driven approach
  • Customer-focused mindset with the ability to manage differences of opinion professionally
  • Own reliable transport and a valid South African driver’s licence are essential
  • Proficiency in English
