The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) is inviting applications from suitably qualified graduates to apply for its 2026 Internship Programme. This is an exceptional opportunity for young South Africans to gain hands-on work experience within one of the country’s most essential government departments. Interns will be placed across various regions nationwide and will receive a monthly stipend of R8 174.75.

About the Programme

The DCS Internship Programme offers placements in a wide range of disciplines across multiple regions, including the Head Office, Gauteng, Limpopo/Mpumalanga and North West, Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Free State/Northern Cape, and specialist training colleges including Kroonstad Training College and Zonderwater Training College.

This programme is ideal for graduates who hold a National Diploma or Degree and are looking to bridge the gap between academic qualification and professional employment.

Available Fields

The following fields are open for applications across the various regions:

1. Correctional Service Management
National Diploma/Degree in Correctional Services Management, Correctional Sciences, Penology, Criminology, or Security Management.

2. Social Work
Degree in Social Work. (Head Office only)

3. Information Technology
National Diploma/Degree in Information Technology.

4. Supply Chain Management
National Diploma/Degree in Supply Chain Management.

5. Theology
National Diploma/Degree in Theological Studies.

6. Occupational Health & Safety
National Diploma/Degree in Safety Management or Environment.

7. Agriculture
National Diploma/Degree in Animal or Plant Production or Horticulture.

8. Kitchen / Bakery
National Diploma/Degree in Food and Consumer Science or Food Technology.

9. Artisans
National Diploma/Degree or Trade Certificate in Plumbing, Electrical, Brick Laying, Welding, Motor Mechanic, Upholstery, Carpentry, or Fitting.

10. Clothing and Textile
National Diploma/Degree in Pattern Making or Clothing Design. (Limpopo/Mpumalanga and North West Region only)

Only a detailed CV should be attached to the application form.
