Seriti’s New Vaal Colliery, based in Vereeniging, Gauteng, is offering an Engineering Learnership 18.2 External opportunity for candidates from the New Vaal Colliery host communities. This is a structured, hands-on pathway to qualifying as an Artisan, giving successful applicants the training and workplace exposure needed to build a long-term career in the mining and engineering sector. The programme is entry-level, meaning no prior work experience is required, though exposure to the mining sector will count in your favour.

Purpose of the Role

The learnership is designed to develop candidates into fully qualified Artisans in one of two trades: Diesel Mechanic or Auto Electrician. Over the course of the programme, learners will receive theoretical and practical training aligned to their chosen trade, working toward trade qualification within a real operational mining environment.

Applicants must clearly indicate which of these two trades they are applying for on their application.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 with Mathematics (not Mathematical Literacy) and Physical Science, minimum E symbol, together with two relevant N2 trade-related subjects; OR a minimum N2 qualification with four relevant trade-related subjects
• Trade theory relevant to the chosen discipline:
• Diesel Mechanic: Mathematics, Engineering Science, Engineering Drawing, and Diesel or Motor Trade Theory
• Auto Electrician: Mathematics, Engineering Science, Industrial Electronics, and Electrical Trade Theory
• Minimum symbol E (40%) in all relevant subjects — subjects with an F symbol will not be accepted
• Willingness to undergo a psychometric assessment
• Willingness and ability to work shifts, standby duties, and call-outs when required
• Strong ability to cope with pressure, work independently, and take initiative
• Ability to identify faults without supervision
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Certificate of Fitness
• A valid K53 driver’s licence
• No criminal record

Advantageous

• Prior experience in the mining sector
