ACTOM, one of Africa’s largest manufacturers, distributors, repairers, and service providers of electrical equipment, is inviting applications for its Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Programme 2026. This structured development programme is designed for graduates in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, and Mechatronic Engineering who want to build a career in automation, control systems, power engineering, and industrial technologies.

About the Programme

The EIT Programme gives graduates practical workplace exposure across multiple engineering disciplines, combining technical learning, project participation, customer interaction, and professional development. Participants work alongside experienced engineers on real industrial systems, gaining the kind of hands-on experience that bridges the gap between academic study and professional practice.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering support and design: engineering calculations, technical proposal development, cost estimation, technical documentation, design reviews, and project support.

Automation and control systems: exposure to PLCs, SCADA systems, HMIs, RTUs, industrial communication networks, and control and protection systems.

Testing and commissioning: system testing, equipment commissioning, fault diagnosis, troubleshooting, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).

Project and customer support: customer meetings, site visits, project planning assistance, and maintaining project records.

Minimum Requirements

• BEng/BSc Electrical Engineering
• BEng/BSc Electronic Engineering
• BEng/BSc Mechatronic Engineering
• Equivalent engineering qualification

Candidates registered with ECSA, or eligible to register within six months, will have an added advantage. Strong academic performance is required.

Desired Technical Knowledge

Preferred knowledge areas include C, C++, and Python programming, Structured Text, Ladder Logic, industrial control systems, automation engineering, and power systems. Experience with DIgSILENT PowerFactory is beneficial, and a valid driver’s licence is an advantage for site visits and customer engagements.
