Requires NQF6 National Diploma (Mechanical/Electrical/Electronics/Mechatronics/Computer/Technology/Civil/Chemical/Metallurgy/Industrial Engineering) plus P1 & P2 telecoms experience and a valid EB/EC/EC1 licence. Eskom’s System Operator (NTCSA) division, through its Telecommunications Business Unit, is recruiting two Technicians: Field Services to join its team based in Simmerpan and Welkom. This is a permanent opportunity for technically skilled candidates to contribute to the maintenance and reliability of South Africa’s national telecommunications infrastructure within the electricity supply industry.

About the Role

The successful candidates will independently maintain, commission, diagnose faults on, and repair telecommunications equipment in line with Eskom’s telecommunication standards, procedures, directives, work practices, guidelines, policies, and service agreements. This is a hands-on technical field role suited to candidates who thrive on independent problem-solving and technical precision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, commission, and maintain telecommunications equipment
  • Ensure conformance to safety, health, environmental, and quality standards

Minimum Requirements

  • National Diploma or National N Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, Computer, Technology, Civil, Chemical, Metallurgy, or Industrial Engineering (NQF6, 240 credits)
  • P1 & P2 telecommunications-related experience
  • Valid driver’s licence code EB, EC, or EC1

Skills and Competencies

Candidates should demonstrate strong technical application ability across telecommunications and construction environments, sound safety knowledge, and computer literacy. An analytical, innovative mindset is essential, along with strong communication skills and the ability to work well within a team. Integrity, honesty, and trustworthiness are core behavioural requirements, and successful candidates will be expected to show leadership qualities such as being approachable, motivational, and a genuine team player.
