Eskom is inviting applications for the Learner Plant Operator programme at Kendal Power Station in Mpumalanga, with 7 positions available. This is an apprenticeship-level learning programme (Task Grade L5) within Eskom’s Operating Business Unit, offering structured institutionalised and on-the-job training for candidates looking to build a career in power generation.
About the Programme
Successful applicants will be placed within Eskom’s Operations division and will undergo comprehensive training designed to build the technical and operational skills required for a career as a Plant Operator. This is a hands-on learning opportunity combining formal instruction with practical, on-site experience at one of Eskom’s power stations.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following qualification combinations:
- Grade 12 with Mathematics 50%, Physical Science 50%, and English 40%
- N3 with Mathematics 50%, Science 50%, and English 40%
- NCV Level 4 with Mathematics 50%, Science 50%, and English 40%
- National N4/N5 Certificate with Trade Subjects
- National N6 Certificate with Trade Subjects
Applicants must be South African citizens. Candidates will go through a structured recruitment process and, if successful, will be placed across Eskom’s Operations divisions.
Skills and Attributes
Eskom is looking for candidates who demonstrate leadership and teamwork, integrity and professionalism, a customer-focused approach, and strong communication, interpersonal, negotiation, and liaising skills. Personal attributes such as politeness, promptness, energy, self-motivation, and assertiveness will also count in candidates’ favour. Familiarity with Eskom’s policies and procedures is an added advantage.
