A relevant Industrial Engineering Diploma or Degree is required.

Location: Lanseria | Duration: 12 Months

ALPLA is a global leader in the development and production of packaging solutions, with a strong commitment to nurturing local talent and driving meaningful youth employment across South Africa. Through the YES (Youth Employment Service) Programme, ALPLA is offering an exciting 12-month opportunity for a driven and technically inclined young South African to gain hands-on Industrial Engineering experience at its Lanseria facility.

About the Role

As an Industrial Engineering Support participant, you will be embedded in a dynamic manufacturing environment where you will contribute directly to plant efficiency and operational excellence. Working closely with experienced engineers and plant managers, you will assist with time studies, support layout planning, and help identify and eliminate waste across the production floor. You will also play an active role in line balancing and the debottlenecking process — developing practical skills that form the foundation of a strong engineering career.

Beyond the technical work, this programme places equal emphasis on professional conduct and self-development. You will be expected to operate with minimal supervision, perform well under pressure, and proactively identify opportunities to grow your contribution as you build new knowledge and skills.

Key Responsibilities

Your duties will include assisting with time studies and facility layouts, differentiating types of operational waste, supporting line balancing activities, and contributing to the debottlenecking process. You will be responsible for ensuring HSE compliance within your area and reporting any incidents or unsafe conditions observed in the plant. You will also support product conformity assurance by adhering to hygiene requirements and reporting non-conformities through the correct channels.

From a professional development perspective, you will be expected to clarify your performance standards with your Business Manager, identify training needs, and actively demonstrate behaviours that support effective performance and business efficiency.

Who Should Apply

This opportunity is open to South African unemployed youth between the ages of 18 and 34 who are medically fit and have not previously participated in the YES Programme. Applicants must reside in Cosmo City, Diepsloot, Randburg, Roodepoort, Krugersdorp, or surrounding areas.

Candidates must hold a Grade 12 certificate along with a relevant Industrial Engineering Diploma or Degree — preferably from a registered TVET college. You should be technically inclined, detail-oriented, and proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Strong verbal and written communication skills and excellent time management are essential.

The ALPLA Identity

ALPLA’s culture is built on trust, respect, and the development of people. The successful candidate will be expected to live these values daily — solving problems decisively, communicating effectively, and delivering reliable results in line with ALPLA’s identity and principles.

This is a genuine opportunity to launch your engineering career within a world-class manufacturing environment. If you meet the criteria and are ready to take that first step, apply today.
