AECI Plant Health is hiring an Electrical Apprentice in Boksburg. Join a structured MERSETA apprenticeship programme, gain hands-on experience in electrical maintenance and installations, and receive mentorship from skilled professionals in a safety-focused industrial environment.

AECI Plant Health is on the lookout for a motivated and safety-conscious Electrical Apprentice to join its Maintenance team at its Lilianton, Boksburg facility. This is a structured apprenticeship opportunity that combines hands-on practical experience with the theoretical requirements of an accredited programme — an ideal entry point for anyone serious about building a career in the electrical trade.

Operating under the AECI Agri Health pillar, AECI Plant Health is a well-established player in the agricultural and industrial chemicals sector. The company’s Boksburg plant is a dynamic, fast-paced environment where the Maintenance team plays a critical role in keeping operations running safely and efficiently. As an Electrical Apprentice, you will work alongside skilled electricians and maintenance professionals who will guide your development every step of the way.

What You Will Be Doing

Your day-to-day responsibilities will span a broad range of electrical maintenance and installation activities. On the installations side, you will assist with new and upgraded electrical installations, including building wiring and AC 3-phase motor setups. You will carry out ad hoc tasks within your competence as directed by the Electrician or Maintenance Team Leader, and you will be expected to report faulty appliances, damaged equipment, and any electrical irregularities you encounter.

On the maintenance side, you will support breakdown maintenance of electrical equipment and assist with the testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of electrical systems across the plant. You will get hands-on experience with electrical testing equipment, hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments. You will also contribute to preventative maintenance activities and help maintain electrical lighting throughout the facility.

Safety is central to everything at AECI. As part of the team, you will be required to comply with all SHEQ rules and regulations, report incidents, near misses, and hazards promptly, and meet all applicable occupational health requirements for the site. A safety-first mindset is not optional — it is a core expectation.

What AECI Is Looking For

To be considered, you will need at least a Grade 12 certificate or equivalent, or an N3 Electrical Engineering qualification. Some awareness of MERSETA apprenticeship requirements and a basic understanding of SANS 10142 wiring standards will stand you in good stead. Prior exposure to a production, workshop, plant, maintenance, or chemical environment is advantageous, though a genuine willingness to learn will carry significant weight.

Beyond technical basics, the ideal candidate is reliable, adaptable, and committed to doing things the right way. Strong values, a positive attitude, punctuality, and effective communication are qualities the team values highly.

Why Apply

This apprenticeship gives you more than just a qualification. You will gain real-world practical experience, mentorship from seasoned professionals, and exposure to a diverse range of electrical systems — all within a structured programme designed to set you up for long-term success in the electrical field.
