City of Johannesburg Seeks Junior Developers and Business & Data Analysts for EPWP Digitization Project

The City of Johannesburg is hiring Junior Developers and Business & Data Analysts on short-term EPWP contracts to support the Spaza Reg platform. Applicants need an IT-related NQF Level 6 qualification, must be South African citizens, and reside within Johannesburg.


The City of Johannesburg’s Department of Economic Development, through its Economic Development Facilitation Branch, is offering short-term contract positions under the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) for Junior Developers and Business & Data Analysts. These positions, which will not exceed 11 months, provide an opportunity for qualified individuals to contribute to the digitization and management of the Spaza Reg platform. The roles are based at 66 Jorissen Street, Jorissen Place, Braamfontein, and come with a monthly all-inclusive stipend of R500.00.

Applicants must hold a National Diploma in Information Technology or any other tertiary qualification in the Computer Science discipline at NQF Level 6. Candidates must also be South African citizens residing within the jurisdiction of the City of Johannesburg.

The primary responsibility of the successful candidates will be to assist in digitizing and managing the Spaza Reg platform to ensure its efficient operation. This will involve maintaining, updating, and supporting the platform’s digital processes while addressing user requirements effectively.

To perform well in these positions, applicants should demonstrate strong computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Applications, and possess good communication skills. A sound understanding of Batho Pele principles and ethical conduct is also required.
