The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC), a Chapter 9 institution supporting constitutional democracy, invites suitably qualified and motivated graduates to apply for its 24-month Internship Programme. This programme is designed to provide practical workplace experience to young graduates while contributing to the effective functioning of the Commission.
About the Internship Programme
The IEC Internship Programme aims to develop young professionals by exposing them to real-world work environments, structured learning, and mentorship. Successful candidates will gain valuable experience in public sector administration while supporting the Commission’s mandate of delivering free and fair elections in South Africa.
Available Internship Fields
The IEC is currently recruiting interns in the following fields:
1. Human Resources and Training (Western Cape)
The Intern: Human Resources and Training will support the coordination and administration of HR and training-related activities. The role reports to the Senior Administrative Officer: Human Resources and Training and involves assisting with employee records, training coordination, and general HR administration.
2. Finance (Western Cape)
The Intern: Finance will assist in supporting effective financial management processes within the organization. Reporting to the Assistant Manager: Assets and Finance, the intern will gain exposure to financial administration, asset management, and compliance procedures.
3. Financial Compliance (Limpopo)
The Intern: Financial Compliance will contribute to the coordination and monitoring of financial management and compliance processes. The intern will report to the Senior Accountant: Finance and Facilities Management and assist with ensuring adherence to financial policies and procedures.
Internship Duration and Stipend
- Contract Duration: 24 months
- Monthly Stipend: R10,441.14
- Job Type: Internship (Fixed-Term Contract)
Minimum Requirements
- A completed qualification (Diploma or Degree) relevant to the field of application
- South African citizenship
- No prior formal work experience required
- Strong administrative, communication, and organisational skills
- Ability to work well in a team and meet deadlines
