Eskom, one of Africa’s largest electricity utilities and a cornerstone of South Africa’s energy infrastructure, is inviting applications for the position of Mechanical Technician (Ash Plant) based at Duvha Power Station in Mpumalanga. This is a permanent opportunity graded at Task Grade T11, offering a market-related salary package and a chance to contribute to the reliable generation of electricity at one of the country’s most significant coal-fired power stations.

About the Role

The Mechanical Technician (Ash Plant) sits within the Maintenance Department at Duvha Power Station and carries the core responsibility of assuring the optimum reliability and availability of plant. The ash plant is a critical component of power station operations, and the successful candidate will play a hands-on role in keeping systems performing at their best. One position is available.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will be expected to maintain and optimise your allocated systems, ensuring that plant performance meets required standards at all times. You will verify that the correct components, spares, and services are procured to support maintenance activities, and you will assist with modifications designed to improve the overall reliability of plant. Staff development is also a component of the role — you will be expected to advise and support colleagues as part of a capable and collaborative maintenance team. The position further requires you to perform project and contract supervision activities and to comply fully with Eskom’s permit-to-work system, which governs safe access to plant and equipment.

Required Knowledge and Skills

Eskom is looking for a candidate with extensive knowledge of national and international engineering codes and standards, as well as a solid grounding in plant fundamental policies, HV/LV regulations, safety protocols, and quality control principles. On the technical skills side, you will need strong analytical and diagnostic abilities, sound problem-solving skills, computer literacy, and effective communication skills. Minimum Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must hold a National Diploma or National N Diploma in a Technical field. Relevant experiential training through P1 and P2 is also required. Candidates who meet these criteria and have a background in mechanical maintenance within a power generation or heavy industrial environment are encouraged to apply.
