Eskom is hiring two Graduate Engineering Interns in Engineering Design within its Powerlines Business Unit. Open to holders of a BSc or Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree. Candidates will sign a two-year contract and receive a stipend. Apply by 23 April 2026.


Eskom, South Africa’s foremost electricity utility and a cornerstone of the country’s energy infrastructure, is inviting applications from suitably qualified graduates for its Graduate Engineering Internship Programme in the Engineering Design discipline. This is a re-advertised opportunity, and two (2) positions are available within the Powerlines Business Unit, Construction Services Department, across various site locations in South Africa.

Successful candidates will be required to sign a two-year internship contract and will receive a stipend in accordance with Eskom’s company policies and procedures. This is an exceptional platform for newly qualified electrical engineers to gain structured, hands-on exposure to real-world engineering design projects under the guidance of experienced professionals in a world-class utility environment.

About the Programme

The internship is designed to bridge the gap between academic training and professional engineering practice. Interns will work within Eskom’s Construction Services environment, contributing to engineering design functions in the Powerlines Business Unit. The programme is structured to ensure that each intern develops practical competencies aligned with their academic background while operating within Eskom’s rigorous safety and quality standards.

Throughout the two-year programme, interns will be guided by a structured training plan that outlines specific milestones, responsibilities, and development objectives. The internship provides exposure to live infrastructure projects, giving graduates a meaningful foundation for a career in electrical engineering.

Key Responsibilities

Interns will be expected to contribute meaningfully across the following areas:

  • Execution of engineering design tasks in line with the prescribed training programme
  • Active participation in continuous improvement initiatives within the department
  • Adherence to all safety protocols and procedures relevant to site and office environments
  • Compliance with Section 14 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993, ensuring that all duties as an employee are properly and responsibly discharged

Required Skills and Attributes

Eskom is looking for candidates who demonstrate both technical aptitude and the personal qualities necessary to thrive in a demanding engineering environment.

Skills required include proficiency in MS Word and Excel, strong leadership potential, and the ability to engage in effective problem-solving and conflict resolution.

In terms of personal attributes, candidates should be sound communicators, able to work under pressure, honest and reliable, adaptable to change, and self-driven with the initiative to think ahead and act independently when required.

Minimum Qualification

  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • BSc or Bachelor of Electrical Engineering
