Citi is inviting undergraduate, Honours and Masters students to apply for its South Africa Winter Internship Programme 2026, a four-week paid vacation internship based in Johannesburg. This is a rare opportunity to gain hands-on work experience within one of the world’s largest financial services organisations, working directly in the Corporate Banking business area.

About Citi

With a workforce of more than 230,000 people across the globe, Citi is a leading international bank with a presence in virtually every major financial market worldwide. Working at Citi means more than holding a job — it means becoming part of a global community committed to making a meaningful impact, fostering career growth, and giving back to the communities in which it operates. In South Africa, Citi continues to build on a legacy of delivering differentiated client experiences and maintaining a reputation built on excellence and integrity.

About the Programme

The Winter Internship is a four-week, full-time paid programme designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world professional experience. Interns are placed within the Corporate Banking business unit, where they are exposed to the broad range of financial services and products that Citi provides to its clients.

The programme is structured to give interns meaningful, practical responsibilities from day one. Participants will gain hands-on experience building financial models and developing corporate finance solutions, conduct research and analyse industry trends to support client advisory work, and take part in client development activities that reflect Citi’s commitment to delivering superior value. The internship is held in-office, giving participants direct access to experienced professionals and a genuine insight into the working culture at one of the world’s premier banking institutions.

Importantly, a successful internship could serve as a pathway to one of Citi’s full-time graduate or analyst programmes — structured programmes that place university graduates within specific functional teams across the bank, commencing with extensive classroom training and the opportunity to complete globally recognised professional qualifications.

Who Should Apply

Citi welcomes applications from highly motivated students across all degree disciplines. While studies in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Engineering, or Information Technology are considered advantageous, they are not a prerequisite. What matters most is a genuine interest in financial markets, a strong academic record at both Matric and university level, and the drive to learn and contribute in a professional team environment.

Candidates should demonstrate analytical and quantitative ability, strong communication and organisational skills, and an awareness of the domestic and global business landscape. Extensive prior work experience is not required — dedication, curiosity, and a passion for the industry are what Citi values most.

Applicants are required to submit a CV, Cover Letter, updated Academic Transcript, and a copy of their ID.

How to Apply

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, so candidates are strongly encouraged to apply as early as possible. Successful candidates will receive a competitive salary for the duration of the programme.
