The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) is offering structured workplace learning opportunities to recently qualified graduates across multiple regions in the country. This Graduate in Training Programme is open to external candidates and is designed to provide hands-on exposure to real working environments — bridging the gap between academic learning and professional practice.
PRASA operates across various departments and regions, and this intake covers a wide range of disciplines. Positions are available at the Rail Head Office in Braamfontein, the Gauteng Region, KwaZulu-Natal Region, Eastern Cape Region, PRASA Group Capital, Western Cape, and Intersite Asset Investments (Head Office, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape, and Western Cape).
About the Programme
The Graduate in Training Programme gives qualifying graduates the opportunity to develop practical skills within a structured corporate environment. Participants will work alongside experienced professionals, gain exposure to relevant tools and systems, and build competencies aligned with their fields of study. The programme aims to improve graduates’ workplace readiness and long-term employability within South Africa’s rail and infrastructure sector.

- Environmental Engineering
- Safety / Risk Management / Occupational Health and Safety
- Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current / Light Current)
- Electronics and Electromechanical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Civil / Perway Engineering
- Signalling, Electronics, and Computer Systems / Information Engineering
- Infrastructure Engineering Technician
- Rolling Stock Maintenance and Engineering
- Property Management / Real Estate
- Property Development Studies / Built Environment
- Financial Accounting / Auditing / Cost and Management Accounting
- Energy Management
Minimum Requirements
- A relevant Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma (B Degree / N Dip) in one of the disciplines listed above
- Specific roles in the Western Cape also consider candidates with a Matric and a trade certificate (Electrical or Plumbing)
- No prior work experience is required
Key Responsibilities
Graduates in Training will be expected to:
- Assist with daily office and operational duties relevant to their department
- Conduct research and contribute to assigned projects
- Collaborate with team members and use relevant tools, software, or systems
- Maintain professional etiquette and confidentiality at all times
- Learn company processes, policies, and industry practices
- Actively seek feedback and apply it to improve personal performance
- Demonstrate initiative and a genuine willingness to learn

Sector Regulated Allowance — as per the applicable salary group.
