SLB, a global technology company driving energy innovation for a balanced planet, is hiring a Graduate Data and Infrastructure Engineer to join its team in Cape Town, South Africa.

This role is ideal for a recent graduate looking to build a career in cloud computing, data engineering, and infrastructure support within a multinational technology environment. The successful candidate will organise, collect, process, and store data from multiple sources, transforming raw and unstructured data into formats suited for analysis, while supporting the design, maintenance, and management of the company’s cloud computing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support throughout the Sales and Product and Service Delivery process
  • Manage cloud environments in line with company security guidelines
  • Act as focal point for gathering system requirements from application architects and owners, ensuring seamless data transformation and loading across cloud vendors
  • Handle data loading, data migration, and data retrieval
  • Advise customers on data governance, policies, roles, and dataflow
  • Assemble large, complex data sets meeting functional and non-functional business requirements
  • Perform data mapping and data quality control across one or multiple data sources
  • Assess company data and infrastructure environments, proposing improvements and recommendations
  • Work with stakeholders, including data and design teams, on data-related technical issues
  • Design RESTful services and integrate them with existing data providers using JSON or XML
  • Maintain company databases with a working knowledge of SQL and NoSQL data stores
  • Debug technical issues within complex stacks involving virtualisation, containers, and microservices
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure digital applications run correctly on cloud infrastructure
  • Work with OpenStack, Linux/UNIX, Rackspace, Docker, and Microsoft Azure
  • Handle incoming incidents and change requests as first line of support
  • Support the operation, design, development, testing, and implementation of infrastructure systems and hardware with automation in mind
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of all activities
  • Install and configure IOT Agora solutions, including infrastructure, network setup, and SDK implementation
  • Maintain and support existing on-premises applications, including licensing, installation, and configuration
  • Gain exposure to OSDU community code and Enterprise Data Management (EDM) workflows

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or a related field
  • 0–2 years’ relevant experience, including internships, industrial attachments, academic projects, or graduate trainee programmes
  • Basic understanding of cloud computing technologies
  • Knowledge of SQL databases and data management concepts
  • Exposure to Linux/Unix environments
  • Familiarity with programming or scripting languages such as Python, Java, or C#
  • Understanding of APIs, REST services, JSON, and XML
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Experience gained through internships, university projects, hackathons, or research initiatives related to cloud, data, or infrastructure engineering
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
