The Gauteng Department of e-Government has opened applications for its 2026 Work Exposure Learning opportunities, designed to give South African students practical, real-world experience as part of their academic Workplace Integrated Learning (WIL) requirements. This programme forms part of the department’s contribution to youth skills development in the province, and offers candidates the chance to gain hands-on exposure within a government e-services environment.

Who Can Apply

The opportunity is open to South African citizens between the ages of 18 and 35 who are currently registered for a Graduate study programme through a recognised Higher Education Institution (HEI) accredited by the Council for Higher Education (CHE). Applicants must be required to complete a WIL programme as part of their qualification. This includes students enrolled towards a B Degree or National Diploma at NQF Level 6, as well as Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) students who have completed N6 and require between 6, 12, or 18 months of practical experience to obtain their National Diploma.

Areas of Exposure

Successful candidates will be placed in one of the following areas: Knowledge Management, Business Process Management, Quality Management, Service Management, Information Security, Application Programming (ASP.net and C#), Business Analysis, Financial Management, Human Resource Management, Corporate Communications, and Compliance and Risk Management.

Qualifications Considered

The department welcomes applications from students studying towards a B Degree, National Diploma, or N6 in fields including Computer Science, Informatics, Information Technology, Network Engineering, Human Resource Management, Labour Relations, Training and Organisational Design, Financial Management, Business Management, Procurement and Supply Chain Management, Media Studies, Corporate Communications, Public Relations, and Internal Audit and Risk Management.

Important Information

This is a stipend-free opportunity — the department will not offer any financial income or incentive as part of the WIL placement. The centre for this programme is Johannesburg. Selected candidates will enter into a voluntary, short-term, non-remunerated WIL contract for a non-renewable period of a minimum of 40 hours, which may be extended for longer as permitted by the HEI.

Priority will be given to applications from persons with disabilities.
