PURPOSE OF THE INTERN ROLE
Khumani Mine invites skilled, motivated, and dedicated individuals who would like to make use of this unique opportunity to grow and develop within the company to apply for our structured Internship Programme.
This corporate initiative aims to support our various operational and business departments in the development of critical workspace skills. By creating an entry-level talent pipeline, Assmang seeks to build core technical capabilities, nurture future industry professionals, and fully expose qualified interns to genuine operational knowledge and real-world mine site experiences.
Our production facilities are situated approximately 29km from Kathu, situated directly next to the N14 highway in the Southern Kalahari region.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
To be considered for a placement within our 18-month programme, applicants must possess a recognized South African tertiary qualification in one of the following applicable disciplines:
- Mine Environmental Health: Intermediate Certificate in Mine Environmental Health coupled with a Degree in Environmental Health / Occupational Hygiene, OR a SAIOH Technologist Certification with a related Degree/Diploma.
- Chemistry & Science: BSc Degree, BTech, or National Diploma in Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry.
- Administration: National Diploma in Office Administration or Business Administration.
- Human Resource Management: National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management.
- Safety Management: National Diploma or BTech in Safety Management / Occupational Health and Safety.
- Logistics & Supply Chain: National Diploma or Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or Procurement.
- Environmental Management: National Diploma or Degree in Environmental Management or Environmental Science.
- Communications: National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Corporate Communications or Media Studies.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & CORE COMPETENCIES
- Strong foundational computer literacy.
- Proficient basic use of the standard MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Strong communication skills (both good written and verbal English command).
- A valid South African driver’s license is highly preferred.
ADDITIONAL SELECTION CRITERIA
- Local Demographics: Clear hiring preference will be granted to candidate applications originating locally from the Gamagara and John Taolo Gaetsewe municipal regions within the Northern Cape.
- Employment Equity: In close alignment with the company’s designated Employment Equity plan, the core target market for this intake consists of historically disadvantaged students facing verified financial constraints.
- Assessments: Shortlisted candidates will be subject to professional psychometric and role competency evaluations.
TERMS, CONDITIONS & MEDIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Medical Fitness: Appointments are strictly conditional on passing an official medical assessment and being certified fit as per the Mine Health and Safety Act.
- Stipend: Remuneration is structured as a fixed monthly stipend for the duration of the contract.
- Contractual Nature: Placement is limited to 18 months. Assmang Limited is under no obligation to provide a full-time position or permanent employment after the contract concludes.
- Logistics: Appointed interns are entirely responsible for securing their own accommodation and arranging daily transport to and from the mine.
- Equity Preferences: Designated groups, People with Disabilities (PWD), and Women in Mining will receive prioritized consideration.
