Our established client in Bloemfontein is looking for reliable, results-driven Automation Technician Interns to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity for a young, technically minded individual to gain hands-on experience in industrial automation, PLC systems and electrical control work within a supportive production environment.

About the Role

As an Automation Technician Intern, you will work alongside experienced technicians and engineers, assisting with PLC programming, electrical wiring, panel installations, and the maintenance of automated production equipment. This internship offers real, practical exposure to industrial automation and control systems, and is ideal for a graduate or trade-qualified candidate looking to build a career in the automation and electrical engineering field.

Requirements

  • Trade Certificate, National Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation or a related field
  • Basic understanding of PLC programming (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Schneider, Delta, Omron or similar platforms)
  • Knowledge of electrical control systems and industrial instrumentation
  • Ability to read electrical diagrams and technical drawings
  • Good problem-solving and communication skills
  • Valid RSA driver’s licence with own transport

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with PLC programming, troubleshooting and modifications
  • Support the installation and commissioning of automation and control systems
  • Perform electrical wiring and panel installations according to engineering drawings
  • Test, inspect and maintain PLC-controlled equipment
  • Assist with fault finding on electrical and automation systems
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and PLC logic
  • Support preventative maintenance activities on production equipment
  • Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance and programming activities
  • Participate in continuous improvement and automation projects
