Nokia is offering a 6-month Early Career Programme for students looking to break into the telecommunications and networking industry. Based in South Africa, this internship gives you hands-on exposure to cutting-edge technologies including 5G, IP Networks, and Core Systems, while you contribute to real network automation, operations, and visualisation projects within Nokia’s Network Infrastructure division.

This is more than an internship — it’s a launchpad. You’ll work alongside expert mentors, gain access to power skills coaching, certification opportunities, and immersive learning experiences at Nokia’s Innovation Center and Johannesburg campus.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Student Intern, your responsibilities will include:

  • Automating the collection of logs from Network Management Systems using an AI model, based on required descriptions, versions, and impacted components
  • Developing prototypes to analyse collected logs
  • Building hands-on understanding of Nokia’s Network Infrastructure portfolio (IP, Optics, Fixed Networks)
  • Delivering your End Study Project in an international workplace setting
  • Managing multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
  • Collaborating on group projects that apply theoretical knowledge to real-world telecommunications challenges
  • Networking with industry experts and building professional relationships across Nokia’s diverse teams

Who Should Apply

Nokia is looking for students who:

  • Are graduating in 2026 or 2027
  • Are studying (preferably) Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science (Software Engineering), Computer Systems Engineering, Information Technology, or Informatics
  • Have a strong command of the English language (mandatory)
  • Have exposure to networking fundamentals: Red Hat OS, Oracle, Python programming, Machine Learning, IPv4/IPv6, network addressing, L2/L3 switching and routing, and CCNA

It would also be an advantage if you have:

  • Strong process-mapping and problem-solving skills
  • Clear, precise written and verbal communication skills
  • A systematic, detail-oriented, and quality-focused approach
  • A proactive, curious, and resourceful mindset — someone who enjoys turning manual processes into efficient, automated systems
  • The adaptability to work effectively at the intersection of technology and business operations

Even if you don’t meet every single requirement, Nokia encourages you to apply — unique backgrounds and perspectives are valued as much as technical fit.

  • Flexible and hybrid working schemes
  • Well-being programmes supporting mental and physical health
  • Access to Nokia Employee Resource Groups (NERGs)
