Mukuru is one of Africa’s most recognised money transfer operators, connecting millions of customers across the continent and the diaspora to the financial services they need. Through innovative technology, strong partnerships, and an unwavering commitment to its customers, Mukuru continues to grow its footprint across key African markets. The Commercial team sits at the heart of this growth — driving corridor performance, deepening partner value, and enabling customer acquisition at scale.
Mukuru is now offering a Commercial Intern opportunity based in Cape Town for a driven, analytical, and commercially curious individual ready to gain hands-on experience inside a high-growth pan-African fintech.
About the Role
The Commercial Intern will support the Commercial team across a broad range of operational and strategic initiatives spanning pricing, partnerships, campaigns, and market analysis. This is a genuine learning opportunity — not a passive observer role. You will work closely with cross-functional teams including Business Intelligence, Product, Marketing, and Customer Communications, contributing meaningfully to the work that drives Mukuru’s commercial performance.
What You Will Do
In this role, you will support the tracking of corridor performance metrics covering volumes, revenue, and active customers, and assist in preparing weekly and monthly stakeholder reports. You will conduct competitor pricing analysis across key markets and help evaluate the outcomes of pricing tests and reactivation campaigns.
On the partnerships side, you will research potential payment partners and emerging fintech players, assist with the preparation of partner briefs and comparison analyses, and support onboarding and offboarding documentation processes.
You will also play a coordination role — attending cross-functional meetings, capturing notes, tracking action items, and maintaining standard operating procedures and initiative tracking documents. Additional ad hoc projects and campaign support will form part of your day-to-day responsibilities as the team requires.
What Mukuru Is Looking For
Mukuru is looking for candidates who hold, or are currently completing, a degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Marketing, or a related field.
You should bring strong Excel and PowerPoint skills, a sharp analytical mindset, and excellent attention to detail. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, as is the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Exposure to Power BI or similar data visualisation tools will be advantageous, and familiarity with AI productivity tools such as Microsoft Copilot is a bonus.
What You Will Gain
This internship offers far more than task execution. You will gain direct exposure to commercial strategy within a fast-growing pan-African business, hands-on experience across pricing, campaigns, and partner coordination, and meaningful insight into how a dynamic cross-functional fintech operates. Mentorship from seasoned commercial professionals and a strong foundation for a career in fintech, financial services, or commercial strategy are all part of the package.
How to Apply
If you meet the majority of the requirements outlined above, Mukuru encourages you to take the leap and apply. Remember to include a brief note on how you will bring value to the team.
