This programme is open to candidates from the Middelburg Mine Services host communities and is designed to develop the next generation of qualified Artisans across several critical engineering trades. About the Programme
The Engineering Learnership 18.2 is a structured trade development programme aimed at equipping candidates with the skills, knowledge, and practical experience required to qualify as a certified Artisan. Successful learners will be developed across various in-demand trades within a world-class mining environment, gaining hands-on exposure to real operational conditions at one of Mpumalanga’s most established mining operations.
Trades Available
Candidates may apply for any of the following disciplines:
- Auto Electrician
- Boilermaker
- Diesel Mechanic
- Fitter
- Rigger
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this learnership, applicants must meet the following academic criteria:
- Grade 12 with Mathematics (not Mathematical Literacy) and Science, with a minimum E symbol; plus two N2 trade-related subjects, OR
- A minimum N2 qualification with four relevant trade-related subjects
The required N2 subjects per trade are as follows:
- Auto Electrician: Mathematics, Engineering Science, Industrial Electronics, Electrical Trade Theory
- Boilermaker: Mathematics, Engineering Science, Plating and Structural Steel Drawing, Plater Trade Theory
- Diesel Mechanic: Mathematics, Engineering Science, Engineering Drawing, Diesel or Motor Trade Theory
- Fitter: Mathematics, Engineering Science, Engineering Drawing, Fitting & Machining Theory
- Rigger: Mathematics, Engineering Science, Engineering Drawing, Mechanotechnology
All subjects must carry a minimum symbol of E (40%). Subjects with an F symbol will not be accepted.
Additional Requirements
- A valid K53 driver’s licence
- Ability and willingness to undergo a psychometric assessment
- Willingness to work shifts, standby, and call-outs when required
- Ability to work under pressure and identify faults independently
- In possession of, or able to obtain, a valid Certificate of Fitness
- No criminal record
- Prior experience in the mining sector will be advantageous
